The secret art of inviting happiness
The miraculous medicine of all diseases
Just for today, do not anger
Do not worry and be filled with gratitude
Devote yourself to your work. Be kind to people.
Every morning and evening, join your hands in prayer.
Pray these words to your heart
and chant these words with your mouth

Usui Reiki Treatment for the improvement of body and mind
The founder , Usui Mikao

These words flow right out the mouth of Mikao Usui (1865-1926) popularized by who Reiki. It was recorded that after fasting and meditating for several weeks, Mikao Usui began hallucinating and hearing voices which gave him "the keys to healing." Usui was an admirer of the literary works of Emperor Meiji. His appreciation of the art was well-used in the process of developing his Reiki system. The one stated above is a summary of some of the Meiji Emperor's works which he used to make as a set of ethical principles. A less literal translation of that one is:

"The secret method of inviting blessings
The spiritual medicine of many illnesses
Just for today, do not anger.
Just for today, do not worry.
Do your work with appreciation.
Be kind to all.
In the morning and at night hold your hands in prayer, meditate on and say these words.
This is the Usui Reiki method to change your mind and body for the better."

The word Reiki actually comes from two Japanese words:  Rei which means "God's Wisdom or the Higher Power" and Ki which means "life force energy". Thus, Reiki’s literal translation actually is "spiritually guided life force energy." Reiki is a form of healing through manipulation of the ki, the Japanese version of chi. However, the real science of Reiki though can be traced back to Tibet and was only rediscovered by Dr. Mikao Usui. It was also introduced into the western world by Hawayo Takata. In general, reiki can help you decrease stress in your life and improve your memory, creativity, intellect and intuition. It can also enhance your quality of life as well as treat common health problems, sports injuries, flu, migraines, burns, allergies and etc. Most importantly, it can complement and increase the benefits of traditional and alternative remedies as well as ease the pain of any chronic disease too.

A person who is preparing for a whole-body reiki has several things to do so that he or she can impart healing more effectively. If you want to perform reiki, you must remove your jewelry for they contain items such as stones, metal rings or chains, leather thongs or a variety of other objects. These only attract energies that may interfere with the life energy of Reiki. Earrings are especially a problem because pierced ears interfere with the flow of energy. The ears are used in many important therapies such as acupuncture to utilize meridians so they must be kept unencumbered.

You must also wash hands and there are two reasons why you must do so. First, the physical effect of cleaning makes the hands pleasant to feel for the recipient of Reiki. Second, this can relate to the aura surrounding the body which may be affected by contact with objects, people, etc. The washing only influences which could, in sensitive people, have an adverse effect.

Furthermore, you can also say a prayer, one that is in particular, asking for healing and concentration upon your aims, self-perception and those of the person upon whom your hands will be placed. The prayer will help you be ready to enter into relaxation and even out your aura. After this you can start gently making contact and starting the therapy by asking the person to lie down.

Once your totally in the mood for healing, you can then sit beside the person and put your left hand on your sacrum with your right hand held about 6-9 inches(15-25 cm) above the body of the recipient. Your palm must be facing down as you move your hand along the length of the body from the head to the toes. You can then return the hand to the starting point by using a circular motion along the side of the body and repeat this process three or four times. After each Reiki therapy session is complete, the whole body may be energized via the root chakra. To do this, our hand must be held vertically above the body and then quickly moved from pelvis to head.

The hands are the instruments of healing in Reiki and the position in which they are placed on the recipient is important. Just placing the hands on the appropriate part of the body is ample and reiki can be affected even through clothing.

To heal the head through reiki, you can place your hands in either side of the nose, with the palms covering the eyes and the thumbs rest by the bridge of the nose. This arrangement covers the sinuses, eyes, Pituitary gland, and teeth so it can deal with colds, eye complaints, allergies, sinusitis, fatigue and general discontent. Or you can try placing the hands over the ears, with the fingertips extending down the jaw-line to the neck, and this can encompass the ears for balance as well as extend to the pharyngeal area treating problems like colds, trouble with balance, hearing loss, and etc.
